History of the school The name Fedamore comes from Fiadh Damair, or Feadamair the wood of Damar. The parish used to be called Fedamore and Friarstown. Fairs were held in Fedamore on May 5th and October 9th. Fedamore School is located on the R511, with the river Camogue nearby. The population of the parish is approximately 1800. Fedamore 19th century school, built in the church grounds, was originally thatched. Later, it was raised to two-storeys and given a slated roof. This closed in 1891, when a new school (now the community centre) was opened. In 1984 a new school was built directly across from the local church. The school is endowed with half an acre of land from the glebe, on which it is situated. A residence for the master was built at the expense of the Rev. Godfrey Massey, then curate of the parish. Materials being delivered for the building of Fedamore N.S. 1980 Sod being turned for building of new school 1980 |
Past Pupils and Teachers
Flag Raising Ceremony
On Tuesday the 15th of March all the schools across Ireland had a Proclamation Day. As part of this we had a flag raising ceremony in the school garden. Our students played songs on their tin whistle to mark the occasion. Our sixth class students, April, Lee and Zena raised the flag. When the flag was being raised all the boys, girls and all the teachers sang Amhrán Na bhFiann our national anthem. The ceremony was similar to when the Irish tricolour of green, white and orange was raised over the GPO. As a further celebration to mark the day, all of our classes had been practising some songs and dances and both the children and parents got the chance to perform ‘The Walls of Limerick’ after the flag was raised.Tuesday was a special day for all of us in Fedamore National School. This day will go down in history forever. Fedamore NS wish you all a great Easter and a great centenary celebration of 1916.
You can see our photographs of this day in our ‘picture gallery’.
